What We Believe
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
1. THE BIBLE. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God made up of the sixty-six Books, which is comprised of two main parts, the Old and New Testaments. Through reading the Bible we can better know and understand the God who created all things and how we can have a personal relationship with Him.
(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)
2. THE ONE TRUE GOD. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who know, love, and glorify one another. Perfectly equal in their divinity, however subordinate in responsibility. This one true and living God is infinitely perfect both in His love and in His holiness. He is the Creator of all things, visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy to receive all glory and adoration. Immortal and eternal, He perfectly and completely knows the end from the beginning, sustains and sovereignly rules over all things, and providentially brings about His eternal good purposes to redeem a people for Himself and restore His fallen creation, to the praise of His glorious grace.
(Genesis 1:2, 26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17; John 1:1-5; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Peter 1:16-21)
3. JESUS CHRIST. We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus, Israel’s promised Messiah, was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and advocate.
(John 1:1-3, John 1:14; Matthew 1:18-23, Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Luke 24:36-43, Hebrews 4:14-16, Acts 1:11)
4. THE HOLY SPIRIT. We believe the Holy Spirit has and will exist eternally with God the Father and God the Son. The Holy Spirit works to draw those who are far from God back to Him, He convicts us of our sins, and when we believe in what Jesus did on the cross for us to save us from our sins, the Holy Spirit will dwell in us. In the life of a follower of Jesus, the Holy Spirit: empowers us to live like Jesus, assures us of our salvation, comforts, guides, convicts of sin, intercedes for us, and so much more!
(John 16:7-15, Acts 5:3-4, 1 Corinthians 12:13; Romans 8:9, Ephesians 5:18, Ephesians 3:16; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22-23)
5. MAN. We believe God created mankind in his own image, distinctly different from the rest of His creation and uniquely special to Him. Mankind falls to the temptation of sin which results in a separation from God and requires faith in Jesus to remedy that sin and mend the relationship with God. All mankind is extremely valuable to God, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, mental capacity, or anything else.
(Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 5:12, John 3:3-5)
6. SALVATION. We believe Salvation from our sins is a gracious gift from God through personal faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9). It is by faith in Jesus, not by any works of our own, that we are saved from our sin and can have a relationship with God. The decision to believe in Jesus as your Savior is one that each individual has to make on their own and cannot be made for them.
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7; 1 Peter 1:18-19, Romans 10:9).
7. THE CHURCH. We believe the Church is not a building, it is the community of Jesus followers all over the globe who gather together, worship God together, encourage one another, serve those around them, and share the good news of Jesus with everyone they can! There are many local expressions of the church who work together to live out the mission of Jesus in their communities. As followers of Jesus we are better together and choosing to engage with our local church helps us to grow and live out our faith.
(Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:25-32, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 4:11-16)
8. CHRISTIAN LIFE. We believe that as a follower of Jesus Christ, our main goal is to live a life that is pleasing to God by striving to know Him more and live like Jesus. Christians should be radically different than the culture around them because they are living for Jesus in a world that does not want to follow him. Followers of Jesus exhibit the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5, they live in biblical community, they strive to deepen their relationship with God through prayer and studying God's Word, and share their lives and the good news of Jesus with those around them.
(Romans 12:1-2, James 5:12, Ephesians 5:22-6:4, 1 Corinthians 6:1-8, Romans 12:17-21, Galatians 5:22-23, Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6, James 5:13-18).
9. ORDINANCES. We believe the ordinances are, as we look at Scripture, things that we believe God asks us to do in honor and remembrance of Him. There are a few distinctive ways that we do those things which are consistent with our interpretation of Scripture. Those things include: the baptism of believers through triune immersion, communion that consists of three parts: washing each other's feet, the Lord's Supper, and the bread and the cup.
(Matthew 28:19, John 13:1-17, 1 Corinthians 11:20-22, 33-34, Jude 12, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
10. SATAN. We believe Satan was once a beautifully created angel in Heaven who fell as a result of wanting to be honored as God. He took 1/3 of the heavenly angels with him and now acts as the great adversary of God and His people trying to keep people from following God.
(Revelation 12:1-10, John 12:31, Revelation 20:10).
11. SECOND COMING. We believe that before Jesus returned to Heaven after he rose from the dead, He promised that he would return to Earth to rescue his followers. This great rescue, often called "the rapture", happens before the great tribulation and the future establishment of God's millennial kingdom.
(1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 1:10; Revelation 3:10, Revelation 19:11-20:6).
12. ETERNAL LIFE. We believe after our life on this Earth ends, there will be a conscious existence that will last for eternity. Everyone will face judgment and give an account of their life and for their response to Jesus. Those who knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior will be rewarded with eternal life, those who did not know Jesus as their Savior will spend eternity separated from him in Hell.
(Philippians 1:21-23; Luke 16:19-31, John 5:28-29, Romans 14:10 12; 2 Corinthians 5:10, Revelation 20:11-15, John 3:16, Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:15).
At our church, you will hear the word “gospel” repeatedly because it is the most important truth that we can know and experience. The gospel is not merely a message that needs to be shared with non-Christians, but also with Christians. It is not something that mature Christians move on from, but rather something that they move deeper into. The gospel is the lens in which we should view theology, ministry, and all aspects of life.
The Apostle Paul defined the word “gospel” concisely in 1st Corinthians 15:3-5 when he wrote, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.” Simply put, the gospel is all about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, and the implications it has for us.
The word “gospel” literally means “good news.” It is the good news of God taking on flesh through the person Jesus Christ and rescuing mankind by His perfect life that we could never live, His substitutionary death that we deserved, and the resurrection that now gives us true life through His Spirit. While the gospel can be stated in a sentence, it is also the grand narrative that is told throughout the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The gospel is the glorious story of how God is reconciling the whole world back to Himself through the life, death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. It is personal, yet cosmic. It is simple, yet infinite.
